THE GREATEST NEED OF MAN

Image
THE GREATEST NEED OF MAN Acts 16:22-31  The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten.  After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.  Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.  About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.  Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose.  The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.  But Paul shouted, "Don't harm yourself! We are all here!"  The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul a...

A walk with God

Image
A walk with God Genesis 5:21-24 📖 Enoch had such a close walk with the Lord that Scripture says, 'and he was not, for God took him' (Gen. 5:24).  This means that Enoch did not die, but was taken directly into the presence of the Lord. What a wonderful testimony! As we seek to follow God with passion like Enoch's, let's learn some specific steps that will help us grow in our walk with the Lord.  Reconciliation. This term essentially means 'God moving toward us.' The joy of this step is that we bear no responsibility; it's all up to Him. Through the cross of Jesus Christ, God has already made His move in our direction. (See 2 Cor. 5:18.) When we place faith in the Savior, we immediately take part in that reconciliation.  Trusting God. Our heavenly Father wants us to know He is concerned with our spiritual growth. He also wants us to trust that He has, through Christ, provided the means by which we can walk intimately with Him.  Agreement. To apprec...

BE SURE

Be Sure How can you be sure that you have accepted Christ? A true Christian is someone who believes in God and has asked Jesus Christ, the Son of God, to be their Lord and Savior. How can you be sure that you have accepted Christ? A true Christian is someone who believes in God and has asked Jesus Christ, the Son of God, to be their Lord and Savior. God sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world to die for our sins. All of us have done, said or thought things that are wrong. These are called sins and we deserve to be punished for them. The good news is God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16 When you sincerely ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior and to forgive your sins, you are accepting Christ as your savior. The Bible says “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God...

What troubled waters are you trying to navigate? Find your way by using these promises as guiding lights through dark circumstances. Psalm 34:1-19 📖 God promises that when we face challenging times, He will keep His divine eye upon us. He wants to be our teacher and guide through the difficulty, but we must position ourselves to respond to His signals. That is, we need to: Have a longing to follow God´s way and His way only. Scripture compares such yearning to a deer panting for water (Psalm 42:1). The same should be true of us each time we wait for God´s direction instead of acting on our own. Be willing to be taught by God. He will transform trials into times of learning when we look to Him for guidance. Such was the case with Hannah as she pleaded for a child (1 Samuel 1:1-20, 1 Samuel 2:1-10). It was also true for Mary and Martha when their brother Lazarus died (John 11:17-27). We need willing spirits if we are to learn what God wants to teach us in the ´classroom´ of ...

The Sin of Unbelief

The Sin of Unbelief “And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven, might such a thingbe? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes but shalt not eat thereof”—2 Kings 7:19. ONE WISE man may deliver a whole city; one good man may be the means of safety to a thousand others. The holy ones are “thesalt of the earth,” the means of the preservation of the wicked. Without the godly as a conserve, the race would be utterlydestroyed. In the city of Samaria there was one righteous man—Elisha, the servant of the Lord. Piety was altogether extinctin the court. The king was a sinner of the blackest dye, his iniquity was glaring and infamous. Jehoramwalked in the ways of his father Ahab, and made unto himself false gods. The people of Samaria were fallen like theirmonarch: they had gone astray from Jehovah; they had forsaken the God of Israel; they remembered not the watchword of Jacob,“The Lord thy God is one God...

The Immutability of God

Image
The Immutability of God “I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”—Malachi 3:6 It has been said by some one that “the proper study of mankind is man.” I will not oppose the idea, but I believe it is equallytrue that the proper study of God’s elect is God; the proper study of a Christian is the Godhead. The highest science, theloftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy, which can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father. There is something exceedingly improving to the mind in a contemplation of the Divinity. It is a subject so vast, thatall our thoughts are lost in its immensity; so deep, that our pride is drowned in its infinity. Other subjects we can compassand grapple with; in them we feel a kind of self-content, and go our way with the thought, “Behold I am wise.” But when wecome to this master-science, finding t...

WITH ALL YOUR HEART

Image
Deuteronomy 4:29 (KJV)  But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. When we are aligned with His will, our Father wants to give us our heart´s desires—in His time. As we learn to enjoy Him for who He is, our self-focused wants are replaced by His perfect will and purpose for us. Deuteronomy 4:29 📖 People long to be understood. We appear to have many acquaintances, but we all have a deep need to feel truly known by those we love most. This is because we were created in God´s image—He is a relational being who desires for His children to know and understand Him. Just as you don´t want to be known for only the superficial details of who you appear to be, it´s not enough to simply know about the Lord. He wants us to learn how He thinks and feels, what´s important to Him, and what His purposes are. Of course, it´s impossible for man to completely know the mind of the Creator of the univ...
